Holbox taxi: book your golf cart

On Isla Holbox, taxis are golf carts driven by drivers from the local cooperatives, because visitor cars are not allowed on the island and there is no Uber or DiDi. With Holbox Go you get one right away or book it for your ferry time, at the official island tariff: MXN 100 up to 1.45 km by street and MXN 100 more every 500 m, plus a MXN 20 booking fee. You see the total before you confirm and pay the driver in cash or by card.

How to get a taxi in Holbox

You can book on holboxgo.com or in the app, in English or Spanish.

  • Pick where we collect you and where you are going, from the list of places or by tapping the map; you do not need to share your location.
  • Ask for it now or schedule a time, such as your ferry arrival.
  • Check the total with the booking fee included and choose cash or card.
  • Follow the driver on the map and, when you get in, give them your 4-digit PIN.
  • Cancelling is free until the driver arrives.

Holbox taxi fares

The price depends on street distance, not time or the number of passengers: MXN 100 up to 1.45 km and MXN 100 more for every 500 m. It is the same tariff island drivers charge; Holbox Go only adds MXN 20 for the booking.

A taxi at the pier when your ferry lands

Coming from Chiquilá? Book your taxi for your ferry time. We start looking for a driver 15 minutes before and, if the boat is late, the driver waits from the time you chose. It is the easiest way to arrive with luggage, kids or after dark.

Where taxis go

Carts cover the town, the hotel strip and the beaches as far as the sand roads go, from Punta Cocos in the west to the road towards Punta Mosquito in the east. Some areas are protected and taxis do not go in: if you pick a destination there, the app suggests the nearest point they can reach. After heavy rain some streets flood and rides can take longer.

Cash or card

Pay the driver in pesos in cash when you arrive, or by card on a secure page. There are few ATMs on the island, so paying by card saves you hunting for cash. You can add a tip at the end if you like.

Island drivers

Rides are driven by local drivers from the Holbox cooperatives, in their own carts. Holbox Go has no cars of its own and does not change the tariff: it just helps you find a free taxi, know what you will pay and have it waiting at the pier.
